If it appears simply lost, check the immediate location promptly and contact the local exit-entry administration or 12367 for the reporting route. A police call or record does not replace the passport loss certificate or later immigration steps.

Do not assume so. Tell the embassy or consulate about any urgent travel or legal-stay deadline, but wait for its actual instructions.

It depends on how the traveler entered and what status was connected to the lost passport. A lost Chinese visa may require reissuance; a stay or residence permit may require reissuance or an information update; visa-free entry has no old visa to replace; and a temporary document may require another departure or stay procedure. Ask the local exit-entry administration about the exact case.

Do not treat it as universally accepted. Official guidance lists passport loss certificates among documents that may support certain staffed railway procedures, but the exact transaction and verification route must be confirmed with 12306 or station staff. Hotel check-in and accommodation registration may follow local rules and system capabilities. Confirm with the hotel and local exit-entry authority rather than relying on self-service recognition.

Do not use it until the passport-issuing authority confirms its status. Some issuing authorities invalidate a passport after it is officially reported lost or stolen. Also contact the relevant Chinese authority if a passport loss certificate, visa or permit application, or other exit-entry procedure has already begun.
